Make Israeli battery cages history!![]() The egg industry wants us to believe that the eggs sold in supermarkets come from happy chickens who live on lovely, idyllic farms. However, the sad reality is that the egg industry imprisons millions of chickens in over-crowded wire mesh cages. These cages are called "battery cages", and chickens confined to them are forced to live for their entire lives on a floor space the size of half an A4 paper sheet. Due to the cruel nature of these cages, they have already been outlawed in the European Union, but in Israel the majority of chickens in the egg industry are kept captive in them. Anonymous for Animal Rights is fighting to outlaw this cruel method of caging in Israel too. We demand that the Ministry of Agriculture prohibit the construction of new battery coops as part of the reform in the poultry industry, along the lines of the ban introduced in Europe. Israeli animal protection laws require that the Minister of Agriculture formulate regulations to prevent animal abuse. Hence the Minister is obligated to promptly set up a short transition period after which the Animal Welfare Law should be enforced, leading to a full abandonment of battery cages.
